Jack is 5!

Five years ago, I was spending my evening prepping for our hospital stay the next morning, not having any idea what was in store for me. Not just birth-wise, but parent-wise. Jack made me a mother, and it's been a wild ride ever since. I'll admit I didn't have that overwhelming feeling of maternal love the first time I held him- it took a solid three months to feel it. It's ironic when you think about it; the love I feel now is so great it physically hurts.

Jack still loves things with engines, super heroes, boat rides, breakfast at Mi Apa, cookies from Uppercrust, Legos, & picking out his outfits. He has a soft heart for his family & loves to cuddle & read books before bed. He's great about putting his shoes on their rack when he gets home, placing dirty clothes in the laundry room, & handing over his wet bath towel after use versus balling it up on the floor.

I loved watching his relationship with his sister transform into friendship during quarantine. Each day as nap time approached, he would try to convince me that they'd both sleep in his room. The story was always the same: they would close his bedroom door, I would hear giggling for 45 minutes, and at some point they would bust out of the room chasing each other & laughing up a storm. I put my "mom" face on each & every time and eventually forced them to nap, but deep down inside I loved their play SO MUCH.

I hope Jack continues to be interested in the people & world around him; why they do what they do, how they do it, & how things operate. He is currently OBSESSED with the Bermuda Triangle! I'm so grateful to be this guy's mother & I can't wait to see him flourish in kindergarten this upcoming year! (Although I am already expecting tears- mine).

I didn't put too much thought or planning into this session- he didn't have any specific requests, other than attire. I asked him if he wanted to wear a costume, and he was all about it! I had been scoping out the latest mural from Jenna Horner and figured this was a great opportunity to use it. Not surprisingly, Jessie had to get in on the fun too.
